Floor Covering Prep

Everything you need to know to prepare you for a floor covering installation!


Note of thanks
First, we would like to thank you for selecting us to furnish your new floor covering. Your floor is about to be “reborn” beauty, pride and comfort are about to be yours. To ensure that the installation progresses smoothly and to properly prepare for your new floor, we have provided you with this booklet. It lets you know what you should do to prepare for the installers.

Your satisfaction with our products & our service is of the utmost importance to us.
We want you to be pleased with our materials as well as our workmanship. To ensure this, all our installation work is performed according to manufacturers’ specifications and to your satisfaction.





Furniture

If possible, all furniture should be removed from the rooms that will be receiving floor coverings. In all cases, try to:

  1. Remove all valuables, plants, lamps, knickknacks, etc.
  2. Remove dishes and crystal from hutch cabinets.
  3. Remove perfumes cosmetics from dresser tops.
  4. Strip bed linens if bedrooms are having flooring installed.


Furniture can be moved if necessary, but a price will be charged and agreed upon prior to installation.
Please remember for both your protection and ours, if rooms are not cleared before delivery, our company will not be held liable for any damage that might occur directly or indirectly while handling your property.

Removal of old flooring
The taking up of old flooring can take a considerable amount of time. We are happy to arrange this service; however, a charge will be made. If you prefer to save the additional cost and have family members provide this service, we suggest that the removal be done a day ahead of the installation to allow for clean-up and floor preparation. We will be pleased to place the flooring or dispose of it for you for a small fee.

Subfloor
If you or your contractor are installing underlayment or cement board, there may be additional prep required.

This is important as it could affect your installation as well as your manufacturer's warranty. For your safety, we recommend that a gas company or any other knowledgeable appliance company disconnect and reconnect these appliances. At your request, disconnected appliances will be removed.

Kitchens & utility rooms
Please disengage and disconnect the washer, dryer, refrigerator, ice maker and gas appliances.

Doors
When the flooring is being installed, there is always the possibility that the doors, especially the closest, cellar stairs and sliding bedroom doors, may not clear and swing free. We will remove the doors in order to install the flooring and will rehang them if possible. We regret that we will not be able to shave or cut doors down.

Radiators
We are unable to remove radiators. If it is necessary to remove radiators to make for a better installation, this service must be performed by you or a contractor of your choice.

Seams
We will place seams for the best installation and least amount of waste. If you have a preference on seam placement, please let us know. Please remember we cannot guarantee the seam will be invisible.

Molding/trim
In some installations, quarter round moldings should be removed for a better installation. If in doubt, please check with us. If we remove trim, please keep in mind it may crack or break due to age, and we shall not be held liable.

Cleaning up
Installing new flooring will produce a pile of clippings, papers, tacks, etc. All waste materials will be disposed of before we leave home.

People & pets
If possible, have persons/pets out of the area where flooring is being removed or installed.

Stools
Our subcontractors can remove and replace stools for an additional charge if required.

Walls & trims
We do our very best to not mark or scratch your walls or woodwork. Please understand there may be minimal touch up required on our part.

Customer satisfaction
If at all possible, we ask that you briefly walk through the job with the installer prior to completion. He will answer any questions that you might have regarding the installation.
